About the REMORA Project
Mission
REMORA aims to revolutionize the way aquatic ecosystems are observed, analyzed, and managed. By combining the power of robotic swarms with digital intelligence, REMORA will make aquatic monitoring more autonomous, continuous, and precise — enabling real-time decision-making for sustainability.
Context
Aquatic ecosystems are under growing stress due to pollution, overexploitation, and climate change. The European Blue Economy — including fisheries, aquaculture, shipping, and tourism — depends on the sustainable use of these resources.
However, traditional monitoring methods are expensive, labor-intensive, and limited in scale.
REMORA addresses this gap by introducing robotics and AI-driven automation to deliver continuous, fine-scale environmental data and proactive management.
Strategic Alignment
The project supports global goals such as:
UN Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
UN Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water
EU Green Deal and Digital Europe strategies
Main Objectives:
Develop swarm robotic systems that operate autonomously in aquatic environments.
Implement digital twins for predictive environmental modeling.
Advance human–swarm interaction interfaces to support intuitive supervision.
Validate the technologies in real-world aquatic environments (aquaculture and marina).
